Evidence
Making writing fun, playful and exploratory was highlighted in the 2016-18 Paper Nations evaluation (written by LKMco) as the aspect that made young people most enthusiastic about writing.
“Young people and teachers valued writing for the pleasure it gave, rather than for its benefits in terms of improving technical accuracy (although these were also noted). This contributed to young people feeling overwhelmingly positive about creative writing.”
We’ve seen children engage with writing, have fun with the process and continue a regular practice when the rules are lifted and playful experimentation is emphasised.
