Masterclass: Dialogue and Scene-building with Christopher Wakling

When characters speak stories come to life, but writing convincing dialogue is hard. Many of us hang off it for fear of creating wooden, stilted exchanges that are worse than no dialogue at all.

This class will help you write speech that works. We’ll pull apart some great examples to see what makes them effective and we’ll have a go at writing killer dialogue of our own.

Beyond that, we’ll look how dialogue works within scenes. How does it combine with other elements of fiction – what characters do, where they are, and what they’re thinking – to create a convincing whole? We’ll tackle exercises to help build a world around our characters’ dialogue, creating scenes that drive the story forward. Wheelchair accessible.
