Folklore Storytelling For Performance

3rd March 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

£100

The European folklore and fairytale traditions are rooted in the dark witch infested forests of the Grimms, influenced by the chaotically bawdy worlds of the Italians Basille and Straparola and coalesced in the paradoxicall subversive and subservient environment of the seventeenth century French salons. It is nothing less than a labyrinth of the magical, profoundly frightening and surreal. A slightly parallel world abounding with timeless tales that are perpetually prepared to be reawakened, reshaped and retold by each new generation of storytellers. The six sessions of this course teaches the rudiments of the oral folk and fairytale tradition as it prepares participants to find their individual voices as storytellers and put their own spin on tales from the classic European storytelling tradition. The culmination of the course is an evening of storytelling, to a live audience, at which all participants share their voices and their unique and emerging talents as storytellers.
